In February 2012 the UK patent office passed the Used Tyre Distillation Research Ltd. CRD process for turning waste tyres in to valuable commodities.

Used Tyre Distillation Research Ltd. have developed and patented (GB2446797) a process to effectively turn used tyres in to useful commodities namely, Oil, Carbon Black Steel and Gas
The oil has successful been used as fuel for a road car as witnessed by ITV Wales
